5 Tips to a Happy Baby

Written By Unknown on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 | 12:49 AM

When the blessed bundle finally arrives and you take them home for the first time, life just can't get any better. However, if your baby is unhappy believe me that this will make the entire home a very unhappy place. These 5 helpful tips will ensure tranquility in the home when dealing with a newborn;
  1. Sleep. Babies need lots of sleep and if they don't get it, you won't either. In the beginning there is really no schedule. They will sleep at anytime, so don't start carting them off to family and friends houses right away. Keep them at home so they can get use to you and your environment.
  2. Food. Babies need lots of food. If you are breastfeeding, patience is your guide. Just like sleep, they will be hungry at a moments notice and you need to be in tune to their needs. You can pump your own breast milk and have dad feed during those times you need to get some much needed sleep. Remember you and the entire family, no matter how small or big, are in this together. All should pitch in.
  3. Interaction. Babies need many forms of stimulus. Touching, singing, looking at objects are all important stimulants for your new born. Plus, this is a time when the family can all be involved in bonding time.
  4. Changing. A wet or you no what baby is an unhappy baby. You do not want diaper rash or other ailments to creep into the diaper, so check and change frequently. Again, dad or brother or sister can help in this category.
  5. Health. A babies health is of course important to all. However, the trick here is they cannot tell you if they are not feeling well (except when they cry). Be observant and to any subtle changes in them. Call your doctor or make a doctor visit if you think the baby is not well. Don't worry about being embarrassed if it's nothing, because if it is something the baby will be taken care of.
Also, the family need to continue to be taken care of during this time. The baby is the most important, but don't forget cuddling with other children or a needed kiss for your husband. In addition, quite time for all involved is important. Cherish these new beginning times because they don't last long.

Don't forget the pets during this time. Keep plenty of all natural dog treats [http://www.healthydogtreats.org/All-Natural-Dog-Treats.html] handy from my website [http://www.healthydogtreats.org].

Baby Walker - Myths and Facts

First of all baby walkers was introduced in as early as 1851 which was a patented version previously it was used to hold the child in place and away from cocking area, also the use of walkers in preventing him from falling when he is learning to walk was the prima foci. Eventually these walkers have undergone numerous changes to accommodate it with changing technology and needs. These Baby Walkers are made up of hard plastic frames which are mounted atop wheels and there is a padded and suspended fabric in between with two holes to place the baby.

They are defined as the "Devices which enhance the efforts of infants who are learning to walk and are helpful for them to move from one place o another without help and without falling". These devices are useful in babies between the age group 4-16 months. The targeted use of these devices is to teach a child to walk faster, although some of the pediatricians do not comment on this subject as they think this is not true and walking is a adaptive process which is completed with the increasing age of the child and they also state that this is false publicity spread by the producers of these devices to boost their sales. To support this statement some study and reviews have shown that this is true as the walkers do not help in learning the babies to walk but they have led to many injuries in these infants. American Academy of Pediatrics and some other organizations are issuing warnings and discouraging parents for the use of walkers.

Although there are such tremendous contraindications against this single product then also, parents who are willing to help their babies to learn walking always prefer Baby walkers. There are some precautions to be taken while purchasing a baby walker; the baby walker should always be lightweight and easy to use. The size of the walker should be suitable to babies body should not be too large or too small as both factors are harmful for babies health and increases the possibilities of injury. These walkers should be attractive and at the same time simple because babies should be attracted to it and too toddy designs may create fear in their mind. The wheels should be well bared and move freely as if they get jammed chances of injury increases again. While selecting the design always chose the design in which the lower ring diameter is bigger than normal walkers as this prevents baby's body in going closer to certain harmful objects.

The role of parent actually starts and turns in to care taker when the baby is in the walker because always keep in mind that these 'walkers don't have brakes'. Never leave baby in the walker roam around as there are chances they can run to something attractive which can cause accidents followed by injuries. Never leave baby in a walker in kitchen or near toilets, if there is swimming pool in the house keep the babies and the walker at safe distance from pool.

Now a days after concluding on this mayhem about the walkers one new kind of walkers have been introduced in the market which are parent assisted baby walkers having long strings thus suspending the child in upright position. The design is quite similar to previously used leading string walkers. So anyone not interested to but the traditional design can always go for this parent assisted baby walkers.

The Juppy Baby Walker is a doctor recommended training aid for teaching your baby how to walk while saving the strain and stress on your back. Top rated baby walker for babies learning to walk.

Babies With Colic

All babies cry, its their way of communicating. However babies with colic just won't stop, no matter how much comforting you give them, they can cry for hours for no reason at all. This is not as serious as people think, but it is upsetting for parents and caregivers, especially inexperienced ones.

Colic usually starts around the age of 3 weeks old, and can go on up to 14 weeks of age. Signs that your baby may have colic include stiffening of its legs, clenching its fists, arching its back and constant crying. For a doctor to confirm whether a baby has colic, they will give your baby a check over, ask you questions about the type of food your baby gets, and how long and how often does your baby cry. It's a good idea for mums and dads to keep a diary of this information as it can help the doctor diagnose your baby's condition faster.

Medical experts do not know the exact causes colic, and there is no generally accepted medical treatments for infant colic. A lot of parents do look at homeopathic remedies, as homeopathic treatment is considered safe and completely allergen free with no known side effects. They do know colic is not caused through pain, illness or babies health condition. And it has been suggested that it could just be the babies temperament or immature digestive system. Gas in the belly does make babies with colic worse, so take extra time in burping your baby to get as much gas out as possible.

It is important for parents not to panic, blame themselves or the baby. It is no ones fault. Having a baby with colic can be extremely stressful and tiring for the parents or caregivers. Its not only important for baby, but also for the mum and dads that they are well rested and relaxed, ask friends and family for help so you can have a mid day nap or go for a walk. Remember if your baby has colic it will not last forever.

Baby Bonding - 5 Tips to Bond With Your Baby

Written By Unknown on Monday, September 28, 2015 | 1:36 AM

Want to bond with your baby? Here are 5 tips to show you how to:

1. Always smile to your baby and play with him. You may not know it but he recognizes your happy smiling face. Try establishing eye contact with him and always touch him, massage him, rub his arms and body, pat him, stroke him and rock him. This will make him feel secured and loved.

2. Always do things with him with a smile. He can easily pick up your emotions. Hug him often as this will make him smile or stop him from crying as he will recognize your familiar face and sound.

3. Stroking the baby's head, rubbing his tummy, back, hands and feet and touching him often will not only make him feel good but also allow the stimulation of his blood circulation. You can also learn to properly massage your baby to kep him healthy and stimulated.

4. Kissing his face and head quite often and always saying "I love you" will make him feel your warmth and love. When talking to your baby, use a jolly and soft voice. While changing diapers or feeding him, explain to him what is happening and talk to him in a reassuring manner.

5. If you do not like singing, you may put on a CD with a soothing music to make him feel relaxed and soothed. You can also dance with him while carrying him. This will not only be a good exercise for him but to you as well.

Baby Milestones - Smiling and Laughing

There are many milestones that you and your baby will reach and experience in the first year of your baby's life. Perhaps one of the most rewarding milestones is your baby's first conscious smile accompanied with a tiny giggle when seeing your face or recognizing your voice. Smiling and laughing show that your baby not only can express emotion but also proves that your baby understands emotion and empathy.

Since all babies are different, there isn't a definite time when you can expect your child to start smiling and laughing. When your baby is first born, it will respond to various stimuli in their environment. For the first few weeks of your baby's life, don't expect even a meaningful eye contact, let alone a laugh or a smile. A smile at this age is only a gas reflex and not an expression of emotion.

After about one month, you can expect your child to start recognizing you and looking you in the eye, which is a milestone all in itself. This signifies that your child begins 'seeing' your face and knows where to look for you. As early as five weeks of age you can see your baby's first smile as a reaction to you playing with him or smiling at him or in a response to another human, to a sound or to a certain movement and gesture.

In addition to smiling, your child will also start making endearing silly faces at you. Your baby will enjoy watching your face as if trying to read it and will mimic your facial expressions and gestures as well. After three months, your baby will still be spending most of their time observing the world and watching what goes on around them. Around this time, your baby will give their first real smile, not because they were mimicking yours, but because they were genuinely happy. Your baby will continue to "smile talk" for a few months.

After four months, your child will finally have mastered the art of laughing. Whenever babies meet a new person that they like, expect a sound of joy to come from their mouth. New sounds, colors, interesting shapes can also trigger a hearty giggle. However, your baby will reserve his best smiles for the familiar faces and sounds of mom and dad. This is one of the first signs of parent-child bonding and is a truly rewarding one.

At around five months of age, your baby will have genuine laughs because he finds something funny or entertaining. Tickles and facial expressions when perceived as funny can cause a marathon of laughter. The same goes for the presence of other babies, rhymes and certain songs - they can be very amusing and can bring an avalanche of giggles and smiles.

Create positive excitement and joy for your baby; he will appreciate it and reward you with a smile to light up your heart.

Baby First Year Developmental Milestones

The first year of your baby's life is nothing short of amazing. I sometimes look back at the first year of my own children, who are now in elementary school, and I realize that during that year, they completely transformed. They started out as screaming, demanding little creatures, whose entire purpose in life, so it seemed, was to eat, soil their diapers and sleep. But during that magical year, they became smiling, happy little people, who love to communicate and crave interaction and social attention.

Baby's first year is characterized with many developmental milestones. Here, I am going to highlight the ones that were the most fun and exciting for me, as a parent, to watch.

1 Month old

By this age, your baby will prefer the human face to other shapes. He may also turn towards familiar sounds or voices. These are your first clues that the screaming bundle you brought home from the hospital is going to be a social human being some day!

2 months old

She smiles! This is probably one of the most exciting milestones. Her smile is not very focused. She smiles at anyone, not just at you, and her smile is more of a reflex than a genuine smile, but it is still exciting and heartwarming, especially after two long months of sleepless nights.

3 months old

By this age, your baby begins to develop a social smile. His smile is no longer just a random reflex.

He actually smiles at familiar faces. Another very cute milestone typical for this age: you will see your baby "exercise" by kicking his legs energetically.

4 months old

Your baby is becoming more and more fun to be around. He's not limited to lying down anymore: he can roll over, and sit with support. He also babbles and makes new and changing noises. By this age, he can sleep for stretches of six hours, which makes your life much easier, especially compared with the 1-2 hour stretches of the first few weeks.

5 months old

It's great fun to watch your baby as she experiments with the principle of cause and effect. One morning, when she shakes her rattle, it makes a noise. This is interesting! Now she shakes it again, on purpose, delighted with her ability to produce such an interesting sound. What else can she make happen?

6 months old

Your baby is curious and active. When you hold him in your arms, he's probably not leaning against your body anymore, unless he's tired. He'd much rather look around, reach and grab interesting objects.

7 months old

Playing peekaboo with your baby is one of the highlights of this age. But no worries: if you're too busy to play, your baby will happily play all by himself. I once caught my baby placing a towel over her face, then removing it. She did it several times, obviously experimenting with the concept of "peekaboo."

8 months old

Your baby has a will of her own, and she now has ways of showing it. A baby this age will turn her head away when she's not hungry anymore. Trying to get one more spoon into her? Good luck with that. When she's full, she stops eating. Don't you wish you were like that?

9 months old

His fine motor skills are improving fast - he can now pick up tiny objects using his fingers. During mealtime, he's even more independent than before. He'd much rather feed himself, and often tries to grab the spoon when you feed him.

10 months old

What a relief. As your baby begins to understand the concept of object permanence, your trips to the bathroom are no longer causing hysteria. Your baby finally understands that even if he can't see you, you still exist. In the past, he believed that when you went out of sight, you completely disappeared, never to return again.

11 months old

She's almost not a baby anymore. Very soon she'll be a toddler. Indeed, she now understands the concept of 'no'; claps her hands; waves bye-bye; and calls "mama" and "dada." Independence is very important to her now: my daughter used to brush her own hair, using the wrong side of the brush. She also used to make frequent attempts at getting dressed by herself. None of her attempts were successful, but she always kept trying.

12 months old

Congratulations! You've survived the first year. But you must admit: all those sleepless nights were worth it. Your child is more fun to be with than he ever was before. He smiles, laughs, and communicates, even though he doesn't really talk yet. Perhaps he can walk, or maybe he still needs your help walking. He can identify himself in a mirror and loves to see his own reflection. He also loves putting objects into containers and then taking them out and can occupy himself doing that for long stretches of time.

Happy birthday!

Psychoanalysis for a Baby - "Muddled Brains" or Necessity

Average statistical mother thinks that her baby differ from other children only with the quantity of little wrinkles of his wrists, habit not to sleep at night and scream deafeningly in day. Children, who sleep like tops and do not yell, only squeal quietly sometimes, become the object of general jealous envy. However, it is not always good when a baby sleeps a lot, and it is not always bad when he screams boldly.

Dear parents, remember: during the first year of life, a base of character and destiny of a future adult person are forming. So, it is very important to observe your baby's development.

Notice!

There is a whole section of psychology and a considerable area of psychoanalysis, which are devoted exceptionally to peculiarities of infantile age. Experts advise to pay attention to the following moments in your baby's behavior.

1. The way he cries

Weeping is a universal method to inform about baby's needs, express his feelings, gain a desired goal and... ventilate his respiratory tract. A strength of crying depends on a baby's character, his psychic state and physical development. The bigger a baby's volume of lungs is, the louder his cry is. Prematurely born babies, for example, do not cry at all, just squeak quietly, like kittens.

2. The way he sleeps

Pay attention at your baby's duration of sleep, the way he falls asleep and behaves while awaking.

During day and night sleep, children gain strength and grow. During sleep, neurons of long-term memory fix all day impressions and process received information. Duration and character of sleep show a baby's temperament.

1. Strong and well-balanced sanguine persons sleep little and well.

2. Strong, irrepressible choleric subjects sleep little and bad.

3. Calm and sluggish phlegmatic persons sleep much and well.

4. Sensitive and delicate children with a weak type of nervous system sleep much and uneasily.

3. What or who he prefers to look at

This can be some animate object: mother, father, some strange person; or inanimate object: magazine cover, toy, play of light and shadow on a wall. TV set, showing some movie, is an equivalent of a human being.

Sociable or very emotional children prefer to look at people. Secluded from birth ones fix their look at some objects and nature.

4. What he likes to play with

The one who likes toys usually thinks in a more standard way, than the one who is reaching for forbidden spectacles or mobile phone.

Typology of babies

"Leader"

He cries emphatically and loudly. He falls silent as soon as he receives the desired. He always strives for his goal: if he is hungry, you will not be able to distract him with a rattle, and if he wants to be taken in hands, he will be shouting till he is taken in hands. He falls asleep late, sleeps well, but little. He has an in-born talent to train his parents: as soon as he receives the desired, he becomes sweet like an angel, blinks sweetly, and mother with father are just ready to do everything to see this mildest expression on their baby's chubby little face. A future leader begins smiling early and fixes his sight not on some objects, but on his relatives, on which his well-being depends. He likes company, but hates being holding for a long.

What he needs

He needs a careful and firm attitude. On no account break his individuality. Parents should encourage a baby's good behavior, but not letting him push himself around or letting him tearing a book to pieces or throwing a toy away.

And who he will become then

Purposeful, decisive, persistent and active.

If everything goes wrong way

Strict and severe parents, suppressing independence of a future leader, will form a lonely wolf-cub or a broken and passive unlucky person. Too tender and permitting everything parents will receive a high-quality home tyrant.

"A closed book"

He is quiet and comfortable in exploitation. He seldom cries, only in case of real physical need of hunger, thirst or pains in stomach. He is sleeping almost always. Sleep for him is often an equivalent of heart-rending crying: not receiving the desired, he gets away from, hoping that while he is sleeping, the situation will change. After awaking, he is lying quietly for a long, he is interested in himself. He does not require from parents to stay with him all the time. Since birth, a world of objects attracts him more, than a world of people. He can smile to a bright vase or a swinging branch, looking through the window. He treats all people with equal indifference, is not afraid of anybody, sits like a sack of flour in all adults' hands, obedient and inert. He early chooses one person from his people, as his emotional canal of connection with the world, and often this person is not his mother.

What he needs

You should treat him respectfully, not intruding into his inner world with kisses and loud games. A mother should observe his peace, a father should explain things to him and protect him. It is good to introduce him many different people for communication, so that he could choose a friend to his liking. Mother should not be jealous of him because of a nanny or granny. He loves mother more, but feels easier with someone else.

And who he will become then

Original and deep thinker, engineer or mathematician, chemist or programmer. While having troubles, he will always shrink into his shell.

If everything goes wrong way

An importunate mother-sitting hen, taking care of his each step, will turn him into a secluded paranoiac. An indifferent one will grow a dullish loser or misanthrope of him. A strict and "birching" mother will receive a cruel egoist, not able to compassionate others' distress. A callous and emotionless one will grow a queer fish.

"Fragile like glass"

He often cries, calms down slowly, hiccups, sighs and whimpers. Sleeps long, but always bad, awakes routinely and requires being hold and lulled. He cannot stay alone even for a moment, he is glad to company. Physical closeness to mother and father calms him down. Sometimes he cannot bear bright light, loud sounds, what shows his especially delicate nervous system. He carefully selects his people, some he may ask to hold him, others he can push away. What is interesting, very often it turns out that he does not like people who conceal some hostile intentions towards his relatives.

What he needs

He requires double care, than other children. Adults always should respond to his crying. It is impossible to spoil or pet him: the more warmth he receives from people, the more stable and strong-willed he will become in future.

And who he will become then

A boy will turn into a dream of all women - a strong and tender man. A girl will charm everybody with her amenable, kind and stable character.

If everything goes wrong way

If you start showing tenacity, thinking that a baby will cry and stop, you will grow a nervous, always offended and malicious adult person. If you start scolding and punishing a child, you will form a shy and passive person of him. And you will have to patronize him during his whole life.

"A creative personality"

He hates sleeping, as sleep stops his activity on learning and creative transformation of the world. He does not cry, groan or coo after awakening, in order to attract adults' attention and make them come. He smiles to parents gladly, likes different odd objects more than plain toys. He begins to take to pieces objects surrounding him earlier, than he starts talking. He prefers communication at distance: tale, singing or presence near him to physical caress. He calms down because of words, not touches. He laughs and gesticulates to attract other people's attention to some object to his liking. By the age of 1, he starts showing monstrous obstinacy - give or show this to him.

What he needs

You need to talk and explain everything to him, not thinking whether he understands a lot.

And who he will become then

Gifted, curious, life-loving, quick-tempered and passionate.

If everything goes wrong way

If you suppress sharply his attempts to reach and learn, try to slap, then depressed inquisitiveness will turn into aggressiveness. By school age, a child will turn into an uncontrollable hooligan with poor progress.

"Delicate like mimosa"

He cries with a thin, whining voice and falls silent quickly. Such baby has no powers to have his will, shout until he is heard, and, after 10 minutes of groaning, he disappears in nonentity because of hopeless despair and sleeps round the clock, as if he is under anaesthetic, while his mother is boasting of her wonderful quiet child to her friends. He begins smiling late, freezes in mother's or father's hugs in perfect bliss, and often his parents take him for a "closed book" and leave him alone. However, a "delicate" baby is not interested in objects, nature and his own ideas of world. Instead of playing with a rattle or pyramid, he examines his hands, reaches for a mirror and TV set. He needs people. He is shy and does not have persevering seduction of a "leader" or hysterical obstinacy of a creative personality, does not shrink into his shell till better times, like a "closed book" does, and does not win over adults displaying them boisterous love, like a "fragile" baby does. He is more helpless, than other children, incredibly sensitive, shy; he suffers and stops in development without adults' attention.

What he needs

He needs a lot of external manifestation of love, touches, constant presence in his field of vision. A mother should think well about who will stay with a baby, if she decides to go back working.

And who he will become then

They can become extremely talented musicians, designers, teachers, brave defenders of all weak and miserable.

If everything goes wrong way

Even loving parents, but not realizing the whole degree of delicacy of a child's nature, can suppress a baby's talents and contribute to his change into sickly hypochondriac or a clumsy with zero self-appraisal.

Your baby is afraid of nobody and agrees to go to all strange people's hands

The first variant, age one: probably, your baby is still too little. Children start reacting to their and strange people since 6-8 months.

The second variant: a baby is so used to bathe in kindness and attention of other people, that he loves everybody. However, he loves more his people all the same, and, being in strange people's hands, he fidgets and searches for parents.

The third variant, sad one: he has so little love and attention of adults that he is ready to reach for everyone who will smile to him. A baby does not distinguish his people from strange ones. This is a state, typical for babies from boarding school.

The way to understand that a baby feels stress, not just plays up

1. He is crying all the time, round the clock.

2. His character of sleep has changed suddenly, he sleeps either less, or much more, or worse now.

3. He stops doing what he could, does not smile anymore, does not want to hold head, sit or seize rattle, play hide-and-seek or stand on feet.

4. He does not smile and laugh.

5. He refuses eating.

6. Disposition appears on his body.

If your baby has although one of these suspicious symptoms, show him to podiatrist.

Baby's 1st Year Of Adventure

The amount an infant learns the first 12 months is amazing. What is even better is you can help increase you child's brain development, and it does not require lots of money or time. Your child can learn from stuff you do every day. However, you actually do not need them, every day interaction and moments can improve your baby's brain power. So get ready for the first incredible 12 months of your baby's learning.

You're helping your baby to learn every time he sees your grinning face.. Your morning time wake up routine is a great learning time too. When you smile at baby in the morning and he smiles back that's your baby's brains mirror neurons working. Babies learn how to communicate from you, so the more to look and talk to your baby the better. In the beginning whenever you smile and talk to baby you won't get much of a response. As your baby gets older he will start to smile back at you, and then he will try to make words. So keep up all those smiles and chatter.

Baby's enjoy playing and any kind of safe item can be a learning experience. Letting your baby to touch and feel several items lets them to observe how they differ. Help baby discover how things work. If you have a baby toy with push buttons, then show baby how to push the buttons, soon they will be giving it a go by themselves. With this in mind any safe item may become a toy and learning experience at the same time. All things are brand new for baby, therefore even feeling new textures is quite the learning experience. You can watch baby respond whenever you take a toy and push a button which makes noise. Soon baby will pushing the button himself if you keep showing him what to do.

Babies learn a lot by watching. So keep baby near while you are completing chores, they love to watch while you're in motion. Also if baby does something that makes you smile, give them a big reaction, because if they get a result they are more likely to do it again to see you respond.Your are the most interesting thing on your baby's life. Well you are and he learns just by watching you. So keep your little one close when you are conducting your daily tasks around the house. Your reactions are being monitored by your baby. So if the baby does something that is fun and silly, give a big reaction. When you give him that big reaction, he is likely do whatever he did again.

Just like us, babies need downtime. So whenever you read allow baby just to sit with you. This down time helps them process the information they have learned that day, and you get to rest as well.

Another relaxing activity for baby is the outdoors. As a mom you know you need some down time and the good news is that so does your baby. So if you like to read, have the baby sit with you while you are reading. He will enjoy the together quiet time and you will get a few chapters of that novel you have been trying to read. The outdoors also allows baby to relax. It is a calming time, but he also get to look around and experience new things.

Reading to you baby is an activity that helps them learn words and the way to communicate, the sooner you start reading to him the better. Use emotion in your voice when you read, it helps baby learn that words and emotions go together. Also reading the same book over and over is very calming for baby. One of the best ways you can spend time with your baby is reading to him, no matter how young he is. Reading to your baby accomplishes a few things. First you are helping to boost your baby's vocabulary and helping him to recognize what the words mean. When you read to your baby, use emotion in your tone of voice, this helps babies to learn that words and emotions go together. Besides helping your baby to learn, it can also soothe him.

Just spending time with your baby doing everyday things helps baby's brain and allows you to bond with baby. Those every day things you and baby are doing are making him smarter every day. Your baby will grow brighter every day just by the two of you doing every day things.

Harmful Chemicals In Baby Care Products - What's Safe?

Written By Unknown on Saturday, September 26, 2015 | 12:24 AM

Have you heard about all the harmful chemicals in everyday baby products?

Children today face increasing obstacles to healthy development, including rising incidence of premature birth; male genital defects; learning, attention and emotional disturbances; early puberty; obesity; and low sperm quality.

A recent report, "Growing Up Toxic" by the Environment California Research and Policy Center, confirmed findings that chemical exposures are the primary cause for increased disabilities and disease. The only good news is that YOU can protect your child from many of these chemicals, armed with knowledge and the commitment to buy smart.

Headlines are screaming about bisphenol A (BPA), a noxious chemical used in many plastic containers including baby bottles, water bottles, sippy cups and other containers used for food and beverages. Much of the recent clamor occurred after publication of a recent study, Baby's Toxic Bottle: Bisphenol A Leaching from Popular Brands of Baby Bottles.

The study, commissioned by Environmental Health groups in the U.S. and Canada, has resulted in calls for bans on BPA, an environmental estrogen, since it is known to leach out of the plastics and has been implicated in development and reproductive health risks.

Dr. David Carpenter, a professor of environmental health sciences at the State University of New York at Albany School of Public Health, said that BPA taken into the body before birth or in early years of life can alter the ratio of sex hormones and affect development.

"It's absolutely obscene to use a substance that can make little boys less masculine and opens the chance that little girls will go on to develop breast cancer," he said at the teleconference.

The BPA studies call for a ban on the use of BPA following action by the State of California to ban the use of phthalates and other known cancer causing ingredients in products designed for children. Phthalates (pronounced thah-lates) are used to make plastic 'soft' and is found in toys, teething rings, some bottles and other play things that children often handle or put into their mouths. The California legislation is leading other states to begin regulation on known carcinogens, hormone disruptors, neurotoxins, but the road to success is rocky and very long.

Early 2008, another study found elevated levels of phthalates found in the urine of babies who'd been recently shampooed, powdered or lotioned with commonly used, commercial baby products. These reports, along with a myriad of other recent studies, are contributing to real concern and outrage on the part of parents across the nation.

When the very products that are designed to encourage good parenting become a threat to good health, it creates worry and distress. It also points to the need for parents to become vigilant consumers who learn to read labels, follow new studies as they are published and begin to demand safe, clean products for their children.

One of the first and most controllable items that a parent can focus on are the skin and body care products they expose their child to each day. And, no, I'm not talking just about the baby care products. I am including all the items adults use to bathe or shower, brush their teeth, plus deodorant, lotion, makeup, nail polish and products that clean / freshen the home. READ the labels on your product containers and remember that the average American comes into contact with over 200 toxic chemicals just getting ready for work in the morning! If you put it on your own body and then pick up your child to quiet their sobs, it's safe to assume your child is getting exposed to the same 200 chemicals that you just slathered over your own body.

So, how do you get started?

Just take one step at a time. READ labels and try to limit the number of toxins in each product. I've listed the most worrisome below - clip the list and take it with you when you are shopping. Remember that if a product has 5 or 6 ingredients that are on the list - or only 1 ingredient on the list, that should be reason enough to look for a safer product.

Red Flag Ingredients (toxic synthetic chemicals) to Avoid:

· Alcohol, Isopropyl (SD-40)

· Benzoyl Peroxide

· DEA (Diethanolamine), MEA (Monoethanolamine), & TEA (Triethanolamine) · Dioxin

· DMDM Hydantoin & Urea (Imidazolidinyl)

· FD&C Color Pigments

· Fragrances

· Parabens

· PEG (Polyethylene glycol)

· Phthalates

· Propylene Glycol (PG) and Butylene Glycol

· Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)

· Triclosan

· Sunscreen ingredients like benzophenone, avebenzone, methyoxycinnamates, paba, etc.

I recommend that you take the time to find the best natural, certified organic and/or wild crafted formulations. Look for certifications like: Certified ToxicFree® Product Seal, the EcoCert Seal or the USDA Certified Organic Seal.

These seals are indications that a third party has examined the formulations and judged them according to their safety standards. I believe that you have a 'Right to Know' that what is in products will not harm you or your baby! Feeling assured that the products you purchase are free from xeno-estrogens, carcinogens and other known toxic ingredients is important when you are buying for you and your baby.

Baby Care Tips For Every Parent

If you have a new baby, there are some important things you should know. Even if this isn't your first child, you should take in this information. There are many challenges new parents face and you will find that each baby is an individual and can bring along unique challenges that you didn't face before.

As you may already know, babies don't come with an instruction manual so here are some things you should know. First, you should only sponge bathe your baby until the umbilical cord falls off. This can take one to two weeks after the baby is born. After that, you can bathe your baby in a baby bath, small tub or even the kitchen sink. Just be sure you never leave your baby alone in the water. Even a very small amount of water can drown a baby and they will be very slippery from the water and can also be injured if they slip out of the tub.

If your male baby was circumcised, it should heal quickly and easily on its own. Be sure to follow your pediatrician's instructions for keeping the area clean and dry.

Be aware of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) and the circumstances that can contribute to the risk of it. Male babies are more likely than females to have SIDS as are minority children. Premature babies also carry a higher risk. Statistics also show that babies of young, single mothers also carry a higher risk. Avoid placing blankets, stuffed animals and other items in the crib with your baby.

These are some basic tips for baby care of new parents. Of course this doesn't even come close to the things you need to learn about your baby or how to care for a new baby but they are some basic starters. You should seek as much information as possible about baby care and always have a good support system to turn to for help with your baby questions.

Baby Care - Changing A Diaper

Ideally, a baby's diaper should be changed both before and after nursing. But until the age of about six weeks, most babies protest loudly and tearfully against anything that delays nursing time. So, provided that the baby has not had a bowel movement, it is better not to insist on a pre-feeding diaper change in the interest of a peaceful nursing session. After the baby has nursed, he or she is generally more cooperative.

Some parents, especially mothers, like to change a newborn baby on their laps; others prefer to use a waterproof changing mat on a bed or a dresser top. The mat should be covered with a soft towel so that the baby is not placed on a cold plastic surface.

No matter how clean the baby is kept, the skin in the diaper area may still become sore and red. When the first signs of diaper rash appear, add extra absorbency by folding a cloth diaper in half and wrapping it round the baby's waist over the clean ordinary diaper. Secure the extra diaper with a diaper pin, like a skirt. During a bout with diaper rash, plastic pants are no longer suitable.

To prevent a cloth diaper from becoming stained, rinse the stools off the diaper as soon as possible. Hold the diaper under running water in the toilet bowl. It should then be put to soak in a sterilizing solution, in the receptacle provided by the diaper service, or in a household bucket.

The parent's hands should be washed thoroughly after a diaper change. It is not appropriate to leave the child unattended for this because some infants will begin to roll over as early as two months. Here again, careful planning is the key in baby care.

The Older Baby. A baby who sleeps through the night may, during that time, soak through an ordinarily folded diaper. Soaking can be prevented to a certain extent by folding the skirt-shaped diaper around the baby's waist. But if the baby moves around the crib during the night (as happens when a baby is about nine months old), the skirt diaper rides up out of position.

To provide a diaper that stays in position and also has plenty of absorbency, fold one diaper lengthwise until there are three folds; turn up one end of the diaper to create six thicknesses, and lay the folded diaper inside the kite-folded diaper. This puts eight layers of diaper where it is most needed. Because the diaper is bulky, this method should only be used during the night, not when the baby is awake and active.

All About Baby Care, Few Things All Mothers Should Know

Babies are the source of happiness to all parents. But it is a hard challenge to take care of a new born baby. Starting from feeding, bathing, cleaning and protecting from infection, everything is a tedious to perform. So go ahead and learn some important things on baby care here.

The first task that a mother has to learn is to feed her baby. Though it may seem simple to say, its really hard to find when the baby would feel hungry. Brest feeding is advised by most of the doctors for the babies till six months or even more. A chart with all the food items that could be given to the child as it grows a little each month, can be got from the daughter. This can be followed regularly.

Take immense care while handling the new born baby. With the most delicate body, the baby must always be lifted with a hand under the head. This may take sometime for you to learn, if it is your first pregnancy. The same care should be ensured while bathing your dear one. Avoid using any harsh chemical mixed soaps or shampoo. There are many products available in the market exclusively for the newborns, make use of those things.

Whenever you lay your baby anywhere, clean the place well. Check twice that there are no insects in the sheets that you cover your little one. Do not allow anyone with any kind of infection near the child, as children are more prone to diseases.

Change the diapers regularly without any delay, as this may also lead to infection.

Various kinds of cribs are available these days. Choose a crib with a closed net, to protect your baby from mosquitoes. Always make sure that you do not use any strong room fresheners or coils inside the room of the baby.

It may be difficult to understand the problem if the baby keeps on crying. It may generally be due to three reasons. One is for want of hunger or sleep. Next, it may be due to digestive problems. It is not necessary to take to doctor for that. You can give the prescribed syrup for that. Thirdly, the cry may be because of the pain caused by insects or some other substance. This cry would cease after sometime. But if the child keeps on crying, then it is mandatory that you take the baby to the doctor.

When the baby learns to crawl, keep round the clock watch. Never leave the baby alone on cots that is at a height from the floor.

Activities For Baby Boys and Girls

Written By Unknown on Friday, September 25, 2015 | 2:57 AM

Playing is an extremely important part of any newborn baby development and choosing the correct baby activities to start at a given age will not only make the bond with your child stronger, but will dramatically improve the time when they reach each development stage of their first few years. It is important to remember that each child will develop differently and will be able to do certain things at different times from other children. Even though we all want out children to learn quickly always remember not to push them into doing something new, but rather encourage them.

Babies learn new skills at an incredibly fast rate and neglecting play time can be detrimental to their motor, hearing and speech skills. They need to be stimulated on a daily basis in order for them to develop well. Activities for babies must be entertaining and educational as little ones can become distracted and bored very easily. Many people think that with a newborn baby it is not so important to play with them and that in the first few months of their lives all you need to worry about is baby feeding, nappy changing and bathing. However, during the first few months of your child's life they are learning many things and your newborn baby development starts from day one.

Creative Activities for Babies

A great activity that you can play with your one week old is finger puppets. This game will help with their visual recognition and interactivity skills. Newborn babies' sight is very limited and bringing an object to around 15cm from their face will bring their eyes to life as they try focusing and following the objects.

Finger puppets are easy enough to make out of art paper and some coloured pens and do not have to be expensive store bought baby toys. Make some animal faces or anything else you like, the whole idea of this game is to introduce them to shapes and movements. Bring your hand slowly towards your babies face and watch them as they focus on your fingers. When you can see they are focused, slowly bend each finger towards them and introduce each character.

Moving your fingers from side to side will get their eyes moving as they try to follow the shapes. No matter what game you are playing with your new baby it is important to speak to them and describe what you are doing and what each character, colour or texture is. Babies are absolute sponges when it comes to new information and the more words you add to each game, the better their vocabulary will be once they start talking.

During the first couple of months of their life some of the free activities for babies are able to teach them about their new surroundings just as well as expensive toys. A baby blanket can be great fun and educational at the same time. Most new parents have a baby nursery that is full of baby clothing, baby toys and other baby gifts that they received when their little bundle of joy was born.

Baby clothing is soft and your little one is always reaching and trying to grab things for a reason, they want to touch, feel and hold things to learn, so use your baby gift of clothes or rattles and let them feel the textures all the while explain what they are and what colours they are composed of.

Outdoor Activities for Baby

There are many things that one can do to entertain your newborn baby inside the house, but outdoors has its own unique baby activities that are sure to delight. Music activities for babies teach them not only melody, harmony and ultimately a love for music, but if you lay your baby on their baby blanket and move the radio around they will move their heads trying to follow the sound.

Trees, flowers, grass and everything nature has to offer are excellent learning tools to use for teaching them all about colours, shapes and sounds. The great thing about nature is that it offers so many free activities for babies that are not only educational but a very good habit to get your little one into. As their bodies develop, spending an hour a day running around the garden or park is important for their physical development.

Baby Swimming

One of the most amazing outdoor activities for baby boys and baby girls, that will teach them trust is swimming. From as young as six months, some even earlier, babies can swim under water between parents for a short distance. This needs to be taught over a long period and under strict professional supervision, but the whole process is a great way for you to bond with your child and learning to swim will be extremely beneficial for them when they are old enough to swim properly as swimming is one of the most complete exercises for children as well as adults.

Making sure that your baby is learning through play is part of bringing them up fit and healthy.

Learning about baby health issues means learning what makes your newborn baby healthy mentally, physically and spiritually and baby activities definitely help develop all three areas.

If you would like to find out more about activities for babies please feel free to visit our site Newborn Baby. With information and advise for new parents on newborn as well as a range of other topics you are bound to find the answer you need.

Baby Proofing Your Home

Baby proofing your family unit to present your baby the safest workable place to grow and play is a very valuable point that can not be forgotten about or over looked. Baby proofing is a sizable business, and you can expect to shell out a pretty penny in lieu of their services if you opt to make use of them, but the good news is Baby proofing doesn't have to be completed by professionals nor does it have to be complete all in one day, especially if you start ahead of schedule into your pregnancy and baby's life. Baby proofing is intended to, and will reduce the likelihood of in-home accidents. It can be busted down into five universal areas: Stairways, electrical, locks and latches, bath and universal safety but is by no means complete until competent, adult supervision is provided.

Babies start to gather very quickly within their first year, and they have a tendency to become very keen with their hands, legs, and mouth. They will take smaller items, and stick them in an outlet which can cause them to shock themselves, or they will climb and fall or else become wedged in the cords of blinds. Babies can create havoc and get into danger by exploring cabinets, especially those in the kitchen and bathroom, they can acquire a shock by sticking their fingers (which may be wet from saliva) or objects into plug outlets. Babies are very peculiar and they like to grab a hold of things like cords; therefore, make sure that the hair drier or else any other electrical device is out of reach since they are constantly exploring and absorbing what is around them and they develop socially and cognitively through imitation.

Parents

As parents you should stay very watchful, especially as soon as your babies start creeping and crawling around. We in the function of parents have a tendency to agonize endlessly on the subject of how to defend our children from stranger abduction and violence, but at the same moment we could be overlooking one of the biggest threats to our children's safety and well-being their own residential home. Parents can prevent just more or less all of the hazards babies, toddlers and little children deal with inside and outside of the residence by hiring a qualified baby proofer who has a qualified eye to prevent would-be accidents from ever occurring, but if your like me and my wife and on a bit of a budget, you unquestionably can do it yourself, and it is very straightforward to do after you get together a checklist, and a a small amount of items you'll need to buy. It really is straightforward as soon as you get on track, and can in fact be fun and you'll maintain the satisfaction of knowing your baby will be safer since you have made their home environment a lot more baby friendly.

At this time we will move room by room to make it easier for you.

The bathroom can be one of the most treacherous spaces in your family unit. Generally parents prefer to just block off this area except in place of bath and potty training time. It is a truth that your youngster can drown in merely an inch of water, so it is very, very crucial to give close attention to your child at all times while they are in the bathroom. These are just a a small number of tips to get pointed in the appropriate direction.

Bathroom Checklist

Spout cover- either inflatable or plastic

Non-slip tub mat

Toilet lock

Cabinet locks

Electrical covers- go for the installed swivel kind, not the plastic covers.

Toilet Lock - These come in a variety of different types.

Halls and Stairs Checklist

Baby gates (several)

Night Lights

Electrical covers- decide on the installed swivel kind, not the plastic covers

To ensure our youngster wouldn't fall down the stairs we have installed a safety gate at the top of a staircase, with the safety gate bar latch on the side away from our youngster.

At all times beware of stairs with exposed risers, A youngster possibly will be able to squeeze through and fall or else become trapped. Equally crucial are the gaps linking upright posts on a banister, They must be a smaller amount than 5 inches apart, to keep your child's head from getting trapped. If gaps are too large, install a sheet of Plexiglas along the railing, If at all doable, You will choose to install night illumination in hallways and on stairs, this will help prevent children from falling and to help prevent them from being scared and panicking.

Kitchen Checklist

Oven lock

Appliance locks/latches

Trash can with a cover

Cabinet locks

Cord Shorteners

Electrical covers- choose the installed swivel kind, not the plastic covers.

Place baby locks on all cabinets and drawers under your waist level. Generally baby locks are straightforwardly installed with nothing other than a screwdriver. Baby proofing your drawers is essential as a baby or toddler can yank out an entire drawer on top of himself (not to bring up what hazards could be inside them). One thing we did with our youngster Dillon was we left one cabinet unlocked and filled it with plastic dishes and wooden spoons so that way he can be in the kitchen with us and take part in a little fun at the same time.
