No person in the world can understand what a baby needs so
perfectly as it does mother. From the moment of birth a strong link
bonds mother and baby together. It is still too far for the words to
have some meaning in their communication. For now they speak a different
language - a language of body.
Only mother and baby can understand this
unique communication that makes them the most close people possible.
Every movement be that a smile or cry, gurgle or hands put forward to a
mother is a symbol that only mother can read and interpret correctly. An
instant respond is always there through a smile, talk or a song,
cuddle, gentle touch through massage, feeding or slow lullaby.
Without
any doubt, one of the most pleasant and memorable moments in life of a
parent is the day when their baby smiled to them for the first time.
Every parent waits for this to happen for about a month or so. Finally
the day of a first smile arrives. What that mutual sign can mean to you
as a parent? It shows that you are the person they love the most. This
small toothless yet effective nonverbal gesture shows all the love that
words just can not explain.
As a babies grow, they begin to
understand their parents better and better. Each day brings new
interesting findings. Results of some researches show that babies
respond to the words much better, when they are supported with the
language of body: movements and gestures. Nonverbal communication skills
are better mastered by babies and children than adults. Toddlers and
babies can easily feel the mood and emotions of their parents in
different situations. For example, if a mother feels happy and relaxed,
then a baby is calm and has a deeper sleep. If a mother is anxious or
tired, it is impossible for her to hide this, thus it is difficult for a
baby to settle down as well.
Nonverbal skills are so important in
communication with babies. When they grow up to a toddler age just
about anyone can talk to them with body language gestures and signals.
Said that, just imagine how easy it is to show baby "eating",
"sleeping", "walking", "running", "crying", "washing hands" etc.
Basically everything they learn at that period is through watching and
copying. It is much easier to learn watching gestures and movements than
it is from verbal instructions and explanations.
Just another
good example. How would you express your love to the baby without actual
words. You would probably hug and kiss them, cuddle, gently stroke
their back, tickle, smile, laugh, make eye contact and just observe
everything they do and they would observe your movements. Do simply
saying "I love you" can express all the feelings you show with the
gestures? Never.
There are things that words just can not say it right.
