My daughter completed 10 months on 6th January. I started giving
solid food after she has completed 6 months. I have always preferred to
give her homemade food instead of commercial food as I believe that
homemade food is more nutritious and healthy. She has got two teeth one
in the lower jaw and one on the upper. She chews everything she gets.
If
you are a new parent there must be lots of questions and concerns in
your mind as to what your baby needs to grow strong and what the safety
guidelines are when it comes to feeding your baby.
Let's have a look at
certain feeding and safety tips that you should always remember while
feeding your baby.
- Stay close to your little baby while feeding and do not leave him or her alone with food.
- Baby under one year should not be fed honey or any honey product as it has the risk of infant botulism. Infant botulism is a kind of food poisoning which can results in death as the baby under this age does not have a matured digestive system.
- Do not give hard food to your baby like nuts, chips, raw carrots, burger or any other items that could reason choking. Give your baby anything that is mashed food or, food which can easily dissolve in your baby's mouth.
- Do not store food which has not been eaten by your child as saliva can cause bacteria to grow in leftover food. So ensure to give fresh food to your baby.
- Ensure to make or heat baby food on stove. Do not microwave food for your baby even if stirred properly as some part of the food may be hot and can burn your baby. Hence check yourself if the food is too hot or too cold before giving it to your baby.
- Your baby needs fat at this stage hence do not reduce fat while giving solid food to your baby.
- Until your baby is old enough to brush his or her teeth avoid giving food that can be trapped in your baby teeth. Always wipe your baby tongue and gums with a wet wash cloth after your baby has finished with food.
- Keep an eye on your baby while giving food in the car as you may not hear your baby if he starts to choke.
- Avoid giving allergens like egg, orange juice, corn pea nut butter to your baby.
