Technological advances do not always come with a boon. The mobile
sector is undoubtedly doing a brisk business globally but is not free
from health hazards. The recent report from University of California,
Los Angles (UCLA) and Aarhus, Denmark shows that pregnant mothers who
use excessive mobile phones are more likely to deliver a child with
behavioral and emotional problems.
These mobile phones radiate
harmful signals which may result in major public health implications. In
a survey conducted by the same university on more than 13,000 children,
it is found that using mobile phones even two or three times daily was
sufficient to increase the risk of their babies developing hyperactivity
and difficulties with conduct, emotions and relationships.
Not
only that the health issues are even greater if the child themselves
uses the mobile phones before the age of seven. The Russian National
Committee on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection maintains that "the peril
mobile pose is not lower than the risk to children's health from
tobacco or alcohol".
These findings are in line with warning against
both pregnant women and child. According to another study at the
Australian Centre for Radiofrequency Bioeffects Research confirmed that
mobile phones cause a change in brain function by altering brainwaves
known as alpha waves.
Associate Professor Rodney Croft from the
centre said, "Although there's a tiny effect on healthy young adults,
there is a possibility that it could be much stronger in children or the
newborn," Professor Rodney Croft said.
The harmful radiations
from the mobile phones are directed towards the head of the user and get
penetrated into the body tissues and tend to absorbed by them, causing
disturbance in the body metabolism. If you use mobile for long hours
then your head may feel warm resulting in headache or nausea. In case of
newborn or young child with thinner skin and soft bone, the damage is
potentially high.
The prevention to this problem is off course
lesser use of cell phones during pregnancy and otherwise too. Let's use
the technology for growth of mankind but by no means - decline.
