Stopping the tears is probably one of the most frequently advised
areas of baby care. Great Aunties and Uncles have piles of ideas, the
neighbours have another idea and even the butcher may pass on some if
his knowledge.
That is all very well and good but where are they
when it is just you and your baby. The key is to remember that what
works for you may not work for some one else. It is one of the funny
things about baby care. Great solutions can be different for everyone/
With
this in mind, there are some methods that seem t work more than others.
Test them out with your baby and find what fits best for you. Even in
the same family children can have different methods that work
First
of course check they are not hungry or have a dirty diaper. Crying can
also be caused by being busy and not been about to focus on baby care.
Great changes to their routine can unsettle a baby.
Try these one at a time, until you find one that works:
- Wrap them up. Some babies care greatly about feeling warm and snug. It makes them feel secure.
- Put them in a front pack. The movement of you walking can lull them to sleep and settle them down.
- Go for a walk or a car ride. The baby will enjoy the movement. If it is a walk you may enjoy distracting yourself too.
- Rock them or sway with them in your arms.
- Pat their back reasonably firmly and in rhythm
- Give them a warm bath - if you like get in with them and hold them in the water.
- Give them a suck - either offer a breast, a finger or a pacifier.
- Give them to someone else - sometimes they pick up on our tension.
There is nothing more encouraging that getting something
right in your baby care. Great Aunties and Uncles will be wowed when you
manage to stop the crying all yourself. Your baby will be happier and
you will feel great!
And now I invite you to discover some great baby gift ideas or perhaps explore your options for the baby shower gifts.
