Using a Baby Food Grinder to Make Food For Your Baby

Written By Unknown on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 | 12:26 AM

It is advantageous to make food for your baby yourself and it is probably much easier than you think. Processed baby food you buy in the store usually aren't very good values and normally have a lot of preservatives in them. You can choose only the ingredients you want, and make it in small batches at mealtimes or make larger quantities and store it for later. Here are some helpful hints for making batches of baby food in advance.

Start by shopping for your ingredients, usually fruits and vegetables at first. For best results, use fresh ingredients, not canned or frozen. It's imperative you give them a thorough cleaning before cooking to rid them of pesticides and dirt.

Steaming the produce is greatly preferred over boiling it, so it retains its natural vitamins and minerals. Your cooking times will vary depending on your baby's age. The longer you cook it, the thicker the consistency will be, which is better if she has been eating solids for a while already.

Cooking it until it is quite soft is better for babies that are new to solid foods.

After cooking the food you will need to process it in either a blender or food processor of some sort.

The best thing to use for the job is an actual baby food grinder or baby food processor. They are easy to work with and perform the task best. The small size of most versions makes them very portable and they can be used while you are on the go.

Using the tool of your choice, grind the food until it reaches a consistency appropriate for your baby's stage of development.Take your baby food grinder and blend your fruits and vegetables (and meat if your baby is old enough) until it is your desired consistency.

Next you should strain the food and remove any seeds or peelings that aren't blended in. There is usually no need to add sugar or salt. Your child shouldn't need any, and many times added seasonings are too strong for their taste buds at this age.

For storing your newly made baby food, you can use old baby food jars or small plastic-ware containers. For your baby's safety, you should use proper canning methods if you are planning on storing food for lengthy periods.

Another good option is to use ice cube trays to freeze the food you have made. Once they are frozen, just remove the cubes and store them in freezer bags. When you need to use them, defrost them in the microwave or the refrigerator.

Online Shopping Tips For Baby Care Products

Written By Unknown on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 | 12:35 AM

We all know how there is hardly anything you won't buy online. There is an increasing number of online stores that you can buy from ranging from collector's stamps to car insurance policies. Surely buying your baby's needs is also not a problem. Buying baby care products online isn't without advantages. For often busy parents, not having to leave home and their babies to buy baby care products is reason enough to shop online. Online shopping also helps them stay within the budget since they need not spend cash on other expenses like transportation. Also, it is easier to buy affordable baby care products online since parents can compare various products from several online suppliers easily. This is possible because you can check out more than two websites at a time. Despite the convenience though, there are still a number of online shopping tips you need to keep in mind.

First of all, you need to remember you're shopping for stuff you will use on your baby. So you shouldn't compromise quality at all for the sake of saving a few dollars. While there's nothing wrong with being economical, try to avoid buying baby care products from online stores you hardly know, or nobody seems to recommend or heard about. The same rings true when buying medications or energy supplements, for instance. You should not compromise quality over economy. Compare at least two or three stores from each other if you must find affordable deals, but compare only popular online baby product suppliers. Do not buy from stores you know almost nothing about, regardless of how affordable their prices are. Recommendations matter a lot when it comes to buying online. To get background information, check out reviews and testimonials from earlier buyers to get an idea about the baby products you're about to spend on.

Second, you need to know exactly what it is you're buying. If you want to try a new line of baby care products sold online, take time to research as much as you can about these products before you use them on your baby. Ask among close friends or relatives who may have tried or heard about these baby products. This will give you firsthand information about the stuff you plan to buy. You also need to spend time doing research about the companies that manufacture these baby products. Learn more about their credentials, their history and their business goals. Buying from a reputable company is the best way you can make sure that the baby products are of a high standard. Carefully study all your available options before you finally decide whether a certain baby product is something you'd like to use for your baby.

Fun Ways To Cut Costs When Preparing For A New Baby

Written By Unknown on Saturday, September 12, 2015 | 12:44 AM

Preparing for a new baby is exciting whether it is the first or the third. There are so many decisions for the parents to make before this new family member arrives. There is no getting by the fact that babies can be expensive as the expectant mum researching brands is probably already aware.

Contained in this article are some fun ways to cut costs without sacrificing quality, while researching brands and preparing for this tiny new member of the family.

1. Recommendations by family and friends are a fun way to share experiences about pregnancy and things they used for their babies when they were small. You will probably learn more about changing nappies than you ever wanted to know. However, sharing experiences with people close to you is a great way to get product recommendations for brands to use during pregnancy and after the baby arrives. However, new products are being introduced all the time and friends and family may not have any recommendations for those.

2. Most mums to be like to choose their baby products before family and friends begin to buy gifts for their newborn. Everything from the nappies this new baby wears to the style and kind of cot the baby will sleep in is a potential subject of research for the mum to be. Shopping can be fun but tiring.

A mum to be can cover more territory in less time by researching brands online and save her feet. Reviews on brands by other mums can be found on almost any product or brand as well. Many of these are a fun read and offer baby tips as well as brand reviews.

3. Pregnancy supplies such as vitamins are essential for maintaining good health. There are competitions for the mum to be that may provide a month or more worth of vitamins or creams.

Everyone loves competitions. Competitions are even more fun though when the prizes are necessities for mum or baby. Most of these competitions require only a few simple answers to questions about brands or common pregnancy facts. These online competitions take only a few minutes to enter and are a fun way to learn about health care and garner baby health tips.

4. Baby competitions are another fun way to have fun while researching brands. Confused about the right baby monitor and researching several brands? Why not enter the competitions offered and perhaps win one of these or any number of prizes. Some baby competitions are for cute or funny baby photos and some simply test your knowledge of baby facts. Entering these competitions is another fun way to research brands and products in preparation for that lovely infant.

However, the expectant mum chooses to learn about baby products and supplies, enjoy the process and use all your resources to make the best choices. Ask family and friends for advice and enter those competitions to learn even more and a chance to win everything from baby wipes to shopping certificates.

Organic Baby Food - 7 Secrets to Choosing the BEST Brands

Written By Unknown on Thursday, September 10, 2015 | 1:11 AM

Neglect to follow these steps and you could feed your baby a substandard brand!

Choosing between the dozens of brands of Organic Baby Food is difficult and can be overwhelming! Many companies make all sorts of "claims" on their labels and some even make up facts and flat our lie to you! If you follow these 7 tips - when you are comparing those little jars, it will make your choice a little bit easier.
  1. Organic Certification Any organic baby food that you buy should be certified organic and have a certifiers logo or symbol on the label. It means all the ingredients meet the standards for organic foods. They have been grown without pesticides or herbicides and made without artificial preservatives, additives and sweeteners. BUT BE CAREFUL!! Sometimes food manufacturers will try to TRICK YOU into thinking that you're buying organic food when you really aren't!

  2. The First 3 Ingredients When reading an ingredient list, the first three ingredients are the most important. That's because they make up about 90% of the content of your food. With baby foods there usually aren't a lot more than three ingredients. So this rule can be slightly different. But the ingredients are always listed in order from the ingredient that makes up the largest percentage to the ingredient that makes up the smallest percentage of your food. So - The main ingredient of that food should be the first ingredient listed. WATCH OUT!! Another Trick food manufacturer's do is put great looking, "Nutritional Information panels" on the front of the pack. These are TOTALLY UNREGULATED! Which means they don't actually have to be true! and they often aren't!

  3. Filler Ingredients There are many different "filler" ingredients in pre-made foods. By filler ingredients, I mean ingredients that have NO nutritional value and are only added to increase the volume of the food (and give you less value for money!) Tip: Read the ingredient list. If anything is listed that isn't the food you are buying, they are filler ingredients. These ingredients should be avoided! Many things are used as filler ingredients to increase the volume of a food, thus "watering down" the nutritional value and the dollar value. DID YOU KNOW? Even some organic baby foods include unnecessary filler ingredients!

  4. Genetically Engineered Foods Do you know much about Genetic Engineering? I bet you'd be surprised to know that many, many items on your supermarket shelves are made with Genetically Engineered ingredients (including many we feed to our baby's!) Certified Organic Baby Foods will NOT contain any GE ingredients, however.... some brands simply call themselves organic and not "certified organic" by a 3rd party like the USDA so these brands are at risk of contamination!

  5. Preservatives Any food that comes pre-packaged needs to have a preservative. So, yes - even organic baby food has some preservatives. Not all preservatives are created equal! Many are very dangerous chemicals and you should therefore avoid them, but there are some naturally occurring preservatives that aren't all bad. Or the preparation/packaging method may be the preservative. Many "No preservative" foods are simply heat treated and sealed in their packet. Treating a food at high heats does kill bacteria but it also kills many nutrients and is therefore no better than most preservatives!

  6. Expiration Dates Organic foods are good for so many reasons. One of those reasons is their freshness. When you buy organic food it has to be fresh, frozen or preserved with natural preservatives. (not with toxic preservatives!) However, the down side to this is that organic food doesn't last for years on the shelf like some non-organic foods do. (Remember: This is a good thing). All of those chemicals that extend the shelf-life of foods are the ones we're trying to avoid. So, when buying organic baby food, be sure to check the expiration date. Grocery stores are used to jarred foods lasting for a long time and may not be as diligent in removing expired organic products from their shelves.

  7. Packaging, BPA & Other plastics The packaging your food is contained in is something you should really think about. The chemical Bisphenol A (BPA) that is found in some plastics can be very harmful especially to babies. Almost all baby bottles, toys and other products made from plastic used to contain BPA. Buy only bpa free drink bottles, bowls, spoons, storage containers etc for yourself and the entire family. Also, Avoid hand-me-down plastic containers as time and years of washing can make BPA and other Dangerous toxins leach out into the food at higher levels. Also the metal lining of some foods, like baby formula, or tinned vegetables can leak dangerous chemicals into your foods especially after or close to the expiration dates. The safest way for you to be sure to avoid these pitfalls when buying pre-made food is to buy baby food that says their containers are BPA free. Also when buying plastic items for your baby, like spoons and bowls be sure that they are BPA free and recyclable!(And remember to recycle them when it's time to replace.)

Top 5 Parenting Tips For Babies

Written By Unknown on Friday, September 4, 2015 | 12:12 AM

Parenting babies can be a daunting task as you may find it hard to communicate with them. Babies do actually communicate but they do so in different ways. These tips will hopefully make it a lot easier on yourself and baby.

  1. They didn't come here to manipulate you. Babies will cry but only to get your attention to help them with something. They aren't out to annoy you. They either want a changed diaper, they are too hot or cold, teething, stomach/wind pain or may just even be scared.

     2. Close contact is essential with a baby. They want to be close to their mom or dad. You can ever be too close to them. It doesn't turn them into dependent babies, it teaches them that if they are need comfort someone is there for them, hence they tend to be more confident in exploring the world.

   3. Let them explore the world around them. Don't keep them in a playpen, baby proof your house and let them crawl around. It will keep them entertained more than any toy and help them practice crawling, which in turn helps them develop many more neurological connections.

   4. Talk to them like an adult. Babies will only learn language if they can hear it. So if they only hear baby talk that is all they can learn. Introducing them to adult conversation early will help them pick up language a lot faster.

   5. Your babies health is most likely one of your biggest concerns. While everything is new there is a tendency to panic about most minor things. Remember that billions and billions of children have gone through the first years of their life and survived in sometimes much worse conditions than we live today. So while it is always important to keep an eye on your babies health and speak to your health care practitioner should you have any concerns, you will most likely have little to worry about.

Fun Baby Facts That You've Never Heard

Written By ZIA on Monday, November 1, 2010 | 11:52 AM

Almost everybody understands that babies are sweet and cuddly. They wear adorable and funny looking clothing. There is no other stage of life when a person can wear loudly patterned clothing without having to deal with snide comments. Most people think that there isn't much to being a baby. They think that babies come out of the womb as fully formed humans but without the ability to express themselves properly. The truth is that babies are complex little creatures with their own sets of needs and abilities. Here are some facts about babies that might be new to you.

Babies are not skilled at telling the difference between most of the colors they see. Not only does it take a while for the synapses in a baby's brain to fully connect, their eyes take a few months to mature as well. Babies see primary colors better than any other, which is why you should choose those colors for his nursery and toys. Bold and bright colors like reds and greens and blues or even white and black are the easiest colors for babies to see. Pastels are better for adult eyes.

Believe it or not, this is why a baby will sometimes favor certain toys. What this means is that all of the black and white stuff that you think of as ugly is actually better for your baby's eyesight and brain development than the more traditional and popular pastel based decorations and toys.
Odd as it might sound, some babies come out with some teeth already in place! Other kids don't start getting their teeth in until they are between a year and eighteen months old.

No parent looks forward to having their baby start teething. There is no right age for teething to start so don't start to freak out if it happens "too early" or "takes too long" to start. There is no guarantee when it comes to childhood development even in a family with lots of kids-your baby will grow at the pace that nature has intended for him and him alone.

Did you know that when babies grow tails? That's right! Your baby's tail starts to form at the same time that the other organs like the brain and the heart and the lungs begin to develop.

The tail will begin to disappear as the rest of the baby's body takes shape as it grows inside the mother's womb. It is not unlike the way frogs develop from tadpoles. Some people have extra long tails that do not get completely absorbed and are born with small tails that are still intact. Surgical removal and waiting for it to be grown into are the two options that are available to parents whose babies are born with intact tails. You won't have to worry about the affect to your baby if you have the tail removed-it does not affect your baby's health and the surgery is pretty simple. Scientists learn new things about infant and child development every day. What we know to be true right now could be debunked tomorrow! Are you really surprised by how confusion most people find infancy since you now know how rapidly new discoveries are being made? With a little effort anyone can keep up with all of the new discoveries being made. There is more to being a baby than being a human of low function. Babies are creatures with a decidedly intact set of needs. Learning how to communicate with them is very important. Learning everything you can about how babies develop is also important. The more you know, the stronger a parent you will be!
