Babies With Colic

Written By Unknown on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 | 12:38 AM

All babies cry, its their way of communicating. However babies with colic just won't stop, no matter how much comforting you give them, they can cry for hours for no reason at all. This is not as serious as people think, but it is upsetting for parents and caregivers, especially inexperienced ones.

Colic usually starts around the age of 3 weeks old, and can go on up to 14 weeks of age. Signs that your baby may have colic include stiffening of its legs, clenching its fists, arching its back and constant crying. For a doctor to confirm whether a baby has colic, they will give your baby a check over, ask you questions about the type of food your baby gets, and how long and how often does your baby cry. It's a good idea for mums and dads to keep a diary of this information as it can help the doctor diagnose your baby's condition faster.

Medical experts do not know the exact causes colic, and there is no generally accepted medical treatments for infant colic. A lot of parents do look at homeopathic remedies, as homeopathic treatment is considered safe and completely allergen free with no known side effects. They do know colic is not caused through pain, illness or babies health condition. And it has been suggested that it could just be the babies temperament or immature digestive system. Gas in the belly does make babies with colic worse, so take extra time in burping your baby to get as much gas out as possible.

It is important for parents not to panic, blame themselves or the baby. It is no ones fault. Having a baby with colic can be extremely stressful and tiring for the parents or caregivers. Its not only important for baby, but also for the mum and dads that they are well rested and relaxed, ask friends and family for help so you can have a mid day nap or go for a walk. Remember if your baby has colic it will not last forever.

Harmful Chemicals In Baby Care Products - What's Safe?

Written By Unknown on Saturday, September 26, 2015 | 12:24 AM

Have you heard about all the harmful chemicals in everyday baby products?

Children today face increasing obstacles to healthy development, including rising incidence of premature birth; male genital defects; learning, attention and emotional disturbances; early puberty; obesity; and low sperm quality.

A recent report, "Growing Up Toxic" by the Environment California Research and Policy Center, confirmed findings that chemical exposures are the primary cause for increased disabilities and disease. The only good news is that YOU can protect your child from many of these chemicals, armed with knowledge and the commitment to buy smart.

Headlines are screaming about bisphenol A (BPA), a noxious chemical used in many plastic containers including baby bottles, water bottles, sippy cups and other containers used for food and beverages. Much of the recent clamor occurred after publication of a recent study, Baby's Toxic Bottle: Bisphenol A Leaching from Popular Brands of Baby Bottles.

The study, commissioned by Environmental Health groups in the U.S. and Canada, has resulted in calls for bans on BPA, an environmental estrogen, since it is known to leach out of the plastics and has been implicated in development and reproductive health risks.

Dr. David Carpenter, a professor of environmental health sciences at the State University of New York at Albany School of Public Health, said that BPA taken into the body before birth or in early years of life can alter the ratio of sex hormones and affect development.

"It's absolutely obscene to use a substance that can make little boys less masculine and opens the chance that little girls will go on to develop breast cancer," he said at the teleconference.

The BPA studies call for a ban on the use of BPA following action by the State of California to ban the use of phthalates and other known cancer causing ingredients in products designed for children. Phthalates (pronounced thah-lates) are used to make plastic 'soft' and is found in toys, teething rings, some bottles and other play things that children often handle or put into their mouths. The California legislation is leading other states to begin regulation on known carcinogens, hormone disruptors, neurotoxins, but the road to success is rocky and very long.

Early 2008, another study found elevated levels of phthalates found in the urine of babies who'd been recently shampooed, powdered or lotioned with commonly used, commercial baby products. These reports, along with a myriad of other recent studies, are contributing to real concern and outrage on the part of parents across the nation.

When the very products that are designed to encourage good parenting become a threat to good health, it creates worry and distress. It also points to the need for parents to become vigilant consumers who learn to read labels, follow new studies as they are published and begin to demand safe, clean products for their children.

One of the first and most controllable items that a parent can focus on are the skin and body care products they expose their child to each day. And, no, I'm not talking just about the baby care products. I am including all the items adults use to bathe or shower, brush their teeth, plus deodorant, lotion, makeup, nail polish and products that clean / freshen the home. READ the labels on your product containers and remember that the average American comes into contact with over 200 toxic chemicals just getting ready for work in the morning! If you put it on your own body and then pick up your child to quiet their sobs, it's safe to assume your child is getting exposed to the same 200 chemicals that you just slathered over your own body.

So, how do you get started?

Just take one step at a time. READ labels and try to limit the number of toxins in each product. I've listed the most worrisome below - clip the list and take it with you when you are shopping. Remember that if a product has 5 or 6 ingredients that are on the list - or only 1 ingredient on the list, that should be reason enough to look for a safer product.

Red Flag Ingredients (toxic synthetic chemicals) to Avoid:

· Alcohol, Isopropyl (SD-40)

· Benzoyl Peroxide

· DEA (Diethanolamine), MEA (Monoethanolamine), & TEA (Triethanolamine) · Dioxin

· DMDM Hydantoin & Urea (Imidazolidinyl)

· FD&C Color Pigments

· Fragrances

· Parabens

· PEG (Polyethylene glycol)

· Phthalates

· Propylene Glycol (PG) and Butylene Glycol

· Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)

· Triclosan

· Sunscreen ingredients like benzophenone, avebenzone, methyoxycinnamates, paba, etc.

I recommend that you take the time to find the best natural, certified organic and/or wild crafted formulations. Look for certifications like: Certified ToxicFree® Product Seal, the EcoCert Seal or the USDA Certified Organic Seal.

These seals are indications that a third party has examined the formulations and judged them according to their safety standards. I believe that you have a 'Right to Know' that what is in products will not harm you or your baby! Feeling assured that the products you purchase are free from xeno-estrogens, carcinogens and other known toxic ingredients is important when you are buying for you and your baby.

Fresh Air and Your Baby

Written By Unknown on Thursday, September 24, 2015 | 12:40 AM

Did you know that fresh air is just as important and necessary for the baby as for the adult? During the early weeks of life, the air baby breathes must be warm but, it must be warmed fresh air. Your baby requires fresh air just as much as he needs pure food.

During the early days, say after the third week, baby should be well wrapped up with blankets and hood, tucked snugly in his basinet or stroller, while the windows are opened wide and your little one is permitted to enjoy a good airing. Even in the winter months the windows may be raised in this way for a few minutes each day. These "airings" may be for few minutes at first, and, as your child grows older, they may be gradually increased to few hours daily. The stroller or basket should stand near the window, but not in a direct draft. At six weeks, perhaps an hour a day in the fresh air is sufficient; while at six months, four to six hours a day are healthy.

A young baby may enjoy the fresh air in his stroller or crib on the porch, on the roof under suitable awnings, in the yard or under the trees. In fact, at proper age and in season, your child may spend some of his time out of doors in the fresh air, if he has proper protection from the sun, wind, cold and insects. As long as he is snug under warm blankets and that his finger tips are warm, you may know he is warm all over, and a long nap is therefore enjoyed in the cool fresh air. Parents you do have to be cautious under certain weather conditions as per:

1. When the weather is very hot, take him out only in the early morning and late in the afternoon.

2. In extremely cold, below zero weather, let his airing be indoors close to a window as per example.

3. Sharp and cold winds may be uncomfortable to baby's ears, his little nose and eyes. In the case of dust or sand storms, keep your baby in the house.

4. Children enjoy the rain. In the case of baby's outing on rainy days, ample roof protection is the only factor to be considered; if it is adequate, then take him out; if it is lacking, let the airing be done indoors.

It has been long thought that sunlight and fresh air is in some way healthier than indoor or air conditioned air. You can even see this yourself that during the winter months when we are more indoor, respiratory illness especially colds and flu's are much more prevalent

So what can you do to help improve your babies' health?

- First and foremost make sure that the nursery is well ventilated and situated to allow a free supply of both air and sunlight into the room.

- Taking them outside, for a walk in the stroller or simply sitting with them outside under a tree (weather permitting) can also be very beneficial.

- Provide your baby of lot of sunlight as well.

A study has found that babies sleep longer when exposed to plenty of light in the afternoon, a time when many mothers used to put babies in the garden in their prams or take them to a park.

"One possible explanation for the link between light exposure and sleep is that higher light levels encourage the early development of the biological clock, which regulates a number of bodily functions, including the secretion of melatonin, an important factor in well-balanced sleeping patterns," said Dr Harrison (study published in the Journal of Sleep Research).

Studies found that babies who slept well at night were exposed to twice as much light between the hours of midday and 4pm as the poor sleepers.

Both appetite and sleep are improved by fresh air and light exposure. The digestion is better, the cheeks become pink, and healthy signs are seen in the child who is privileged to breathe fresh air and sunlight.

Plus this will also help your infant to associate with this special place so that eh can he can sleep comfortably.

Some older children sleep with a toy cuddled in their arms as they feel safe and so they cuddle around a blanket or a stuffed animal and fell protected and cozy and drift of to sleep feeling safe and secure.

Teaching your child to differentiate between the day time and nighttime feeding time can be done when you make the day time experience a highly interactive experience and sing and talk with your little baby but during the night time feed you can be quiet and not make a fuss about is as this will help the baby to differentiate between night and day.

Observe your babies behavior and try to understand his basic likes and dislikes as this will help you to understand and take care of your baby in the proper way. This gives you a chance to see when your baby is viable after a mood swing and find the key to his moods that create a calming effect on the baby and he feels comfortable and relaxed. Baby Care - The Proper Environment

Written By Unknown on Monday, September 21, 2015 | 12:22 AM

Baby care, for the most part, is routine and is best approached in an organized way. The key to this organization is to correctly equip and arrange the baby's room. Bathing, changing, and feeding the baby also should follow an organized routine whenever possible. Common sense is also essential, especially concerning the safety of the child. Members of the family with illnesses should be kept out of the baby's room, as should any type of pet.

The Proper Environment

The baby's Room.

A newborn infant may share the parent's bedroom for the first few months, but even if this is the case, a separate room should be planned and equipped so that everything is conveniently at hand for the main activities in the baby's life: nursing, body hygiene, and diaper changing.

The room itself should be warm and well ventilated. A constant temperature of 68 to 72 Fahrenheit degrees (20 to 22 Celsius degrees) is advisable for any baby who weighs less than 8 pounds (3.6 Kg), but as the baby grows and puts on weight, the nighttime temperature may be allowed to drop slightly. It is important that the air in the room is not dry. If possible, place a humidifier in the room to keep the air warm and moist.

Every baby needs fresh air but should be protected from drafts, so make sure that the crib is not next to an open window when the baby is asleep. In cold weather, the room should be aired when the baby is not occupying it.

Lightning.

For the convenience of the parents, the room should be well lighted, but newborn infants are unable to adjust their eyes to a bright light. A ceiling light therefore should have a low-power bulb or a dimmer attachment on the light switch. A small table lamp is useful, particularly when placed on the dresser to illuminate the contents of the drawers.

Even a small baby becomes quickly bored by having nothing to look at. A mobile above the bassinet or crib may hold the infant's attention, as will brightly colored pictures fixed within the baby's field of vision.

Furniture and Equipment.

The most important piece of furniture in the baby's room is the bed. The most suitable first bed for a newborn infant is a bassinet, straw basket, or portable crib because a tiny baby feels more secure in a fairly small space. If the baby is going to sleep in a crib, put bumper pads around the edge and wrap the baby firmly so that he or she feels secure.

The mattress must be firm and smooth and should fit the bed snugly. Never use a pillow instead of a mattress-use a foam pad at least one inch (25mm) thick, and make sure that the waterproof cover fits tightly over the mattress. If you are using a straw or cane bassinet, line the inside with material to prevent the baby from catching or scratching the fingers or face on rough edge. This also helps to prevent drafts. A baby under the age of one year should never be given a pillow for the head.

A low, comfortable chair with armrests and a straight back is another important item in the baby's room. The chair can be used for feeding with the bottle or nursing at the breast; or the parent can sit in the chair and change the baby's diaper on the lap instead of on a changer.

All the equipment needed during a diaper change should be within reach so that the parent does not have to leave an infant unattended on the changing surface. A shelf attached to the side of the changing table is useful for storing cream, powder, cotton, and diapers. If this is not possible, make sure that there is a working surface at the correct height next to the changing area. Overhead shelves are convenient, but can be dangerous since a jar or bottle could fall on the baby.

Place two buckets with lids for dirty diapers and clothes by the side of the changing area. A wastebasket also should be beside the changing area for used pieces of cotton.

There should be a plastic bathtub on a sturdy stand in the room and a rack on which to hang towels and a facecloth. It is more suitable to bathe a small baby in his or her room because the temperature is more easily maintained than in an adult bathroom. Even if the room is centrally heated, it may be necessary to boost the room temperature with a heater before bath time. The heater can be either of the radiator type or an electrical heater placed high on the wall.

If parents intend always to feed the baby in his or her own room, a separate low table or cart should be set aside for nursing and feeding articles.

A dresser is useful for storing sheets, blankets, towels, diapers, and clean clothing. As the baby grows out of clothes, they should be stored elsewhere to ensure that the dresser does not become overfull.

Safety.

When planning and equipping a baby's room, safety factors should always be kept in mind. Babies quickly become mobile; it is often not until a near-accident occurs that the parents realize how active the baby is.

All the furniture in the room should be strong and stable so that a crawling infant is not able to overturn it. The windows should have safety stops on them so that they cannot be opened wide enough for the child to crawl out of. As an alternative, parents can fix bars (vertical ones) over the window. If there are electrical outlets at ground level, cover them with outlet covers (which are available at hardware or department stores) or place a piece of heavy furniture in front of them because the crawling child will soon try poking something into the plug.

Cribs should be selected carefully. Bars should be less than 2.5 inches (6.25cm) apart, so that the child cannot get stuck or choke. There must be no peeling paint. Once the crib is set up, do not tie to the bars anything in which the child might become entangled.

Never use an unguarded space heater in a baby's room. Liquid fuel heaters are also dangerous and should not be used.

Nothing Tops Bamboo Cotton Bath Towels in Baby Care

Written By Unknown on Thursday, September 17, 2015 | 11:51 PM

There is no question about it, bamboo cotton bath towels are the best there is on towels when it comes to baby care. Babies, especially newborns are very delicate creatures. Caring for them entails a constant conscience that is nagging about safety, comfort and cleanliness. When it comes to cotton nowadays, those that are made out of bamboo are considered to be most hypo-allergenic.

Common Cotton Types

For a long period of time nothing has topped Egyptian cotton for being the best cotton material. It has the softest and most luxurious feel. The term has become so big in cotton softness that its trademark logo is enough for a cotton material to sell. In reality it still is the softest, having a much higher thread count when compared to other fabrics. But the dawn of bamboo cotton has given a different meaning to baby care. It is not really cotton; it is bamboo which has been manufactured to reach a softness that is comparable to cotton plus, it has a good ability in preventing allergic reactions.

The two fabrics are equally absorbent. One may wonder since both types of fabric came from plants (cotton and bamboo) so they are supposed to be equally hypoallergenic as well. But bamboo is a special kind of plant. It has the natural ability to block bacteria from building up on the fiber. This is actually the material of choice for those who suffer from asthma and other lung related problems.

There may be minimal cases about allergy associated with Egyptian cotton sheets however studies have shown that nothing yet has matched bamboo's innate hypoallergenic qualities.

The only downside in using bamboo over Egyptian cotton is that the latter is more long-lasting. Ostensibly, the reason being is that it has higher thread count. The thread count in cloth materials accounts not just for their softness but also for durability.
Additional Care
In spite of bamboo cotton's natural hypoallergenic qualities, the fact that chemicals on fabric detergents and softeners affect the safeness of clothes on babies should never be discounted. For ultimate baby care, only mild detergents should be used. It is best to stay away from softeners, as much as possible. To keep the towels' fluffiness refrain from using hot water, this can result for towels to be somewhat crusty. A lot of moms have also found that top loader washing machines are best for washing towels. Oftentimes it gives a fluffier result than front loaders. But if a front loader is all you have, then you really have to use a fabric softener but be sure to be careful in choosing the brand.

Egyptian cotton bath towels may be more durable, making it more cost-effective as compared to bamboo cotton bath towels. But when it comes to babies, every parent will agree that providing the best and safest things for them is priceless.

Find bamboo cotton bath towels [http://www.egyptiancottonnow.com/] and other linen sets at Egyptian Cotton Now. Lynda M. Using a Baby Food Grinder to Make Food For Your Baby

Written By Unknown on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 | 12:26 AM

It is advantageous to make food for your baby yourself and it is probably much easier than you think. Processed baby food you buy in the store usually aren't very good values and normally have a lot of preservatives in them. You can choose only the ingredients you want, and make it in small batches at mealtimes or make larger quantities and store it for later. Here are some helpful hints for making batches of baby food in advance.

Start by shopping for your ingredients, usually fruits and vegetables at first. For best results, use fresh ingredients, not canned or frozen. It's imperative you give them a thorough cleaning before cooking to rid them of pesticides and dirt.

Steaming the produce is greatly preferred over boiling it, so it retains its natural vitamins and minerals. Your cooking times will vary depending on your baby's age. The longer you cook it, the thicker the consistency will be, which is better if she has been eating solids for a while already.

Cooking it until it is quite soft is better for babies that are new to solid foods.

After cooking the food you will need to process it in either a blender or food processor of some sort.

The best thing to use for the job is an actual baby food grinder or baby food processor. They are easy to work with and perform the task best. The small size of most versions makes them very portable and they can be used while you are on the go.

Using the tool of your choice, grind the food until it reaches a consistency appropriate for your baby's stage of development.Take your baby food grinder and blend your fruits and vegetables (and meat if your baby is old enough) until it is your desired consistency.

Next you should strain the food and remove any seeds or peelings that aren't blended in. There is usually no need to add sugar or salt. Your child shouldn't need any, and many times added seasonings are too strong for their taste buds at this age.

For storing your newly made baby food, you can use old baby food jars or small plastic-ware containers. For your baby's safety, you should use proper canning methods if you are planning on storing food for lengthy periods.

Another good option is to use ice cube trays to freeze the food you have made. Once they are frozen, just remove the cubes and store them in freezer bags. When you need to use them, defrost them in the microwave or the refrigerator.

Check my site for information to help you select the right baby food grinder [http://babyfoodgrinder.net] for your needs. Robert Dickson is a stay-at-home dad and is proud of making baby food for his three children when they were babies.

A New Baby List - My Top Ten Baby Gear Essentials

Written By Unknown on Saturday, September 12, 2015 | 12:27 AM

If you're a first time mom or mom to be, you are probably feeling a little overwhelmed by all those "great baby products" out there.

What you need is the advice of a mom who's been there, done that, and is now sitting with boxes of unused baby stuff!

Baby goodies are expensive, so before you go on your shopping spree, take a look at my new baby list to find out which products will give you the most value for money.

1. An Infant Car Seat

My absolute number one essential baby item - don't put baby in a car without it!

2. A Nursery Rocking Chair or Glider

Essential for maximizing mom and baby bonding time. Your nursery rocking chair is the place where you will spend countless hours of snuggle time. Not to be missed!

3. An Infant Health Book

There's nothing worse than having a sick baby and not knowing what to do. You don't want to call the doctor in the middle of the night, but you're not sure if you should wait until morning.

A good baby health book will help you to relax and determine the best course of action - put baby back to bed, or rush her off to the emergency room.

4. A Sound And Movement Monitor

Having a sound monitor in your nursery room enables you to move around the home while still being able to monitor baby wherever he is. No need to worry that you won't hear him when he wakes.

Movement, or apnea monitors check baby's breathing. An alarm goes off if baby does not inhale for an extended period -- usually twenty seconds. Often cited as a preventative measure against SIDS, these monitors do not necessarily prevent SIDS, but they do provide peace of mind. If all is quiet, you know baby's OK.

5. Infant Sleeping Bags

Lots of blankets can be dangerous for baby. They can lead to overheating and suffocation. Besides that, from around five months, babies have an annoying habit of kicking them off in the middle of the night, and waking up freezing cold. Guess who else gets woken up?

Sleeping bags are the perfect solution in winter when your baby's jammies may not be enough to keep her warm.

6. A Baby Swing

A baby swing is a must-have for soothing a fussy baby. They just love the to and fro rocking motion. Swings also make great baby sitters while you indulge in the luxury of a shower or a meal without a baby on your hip.

7. A Nursing Pillow

This is a wonderful invention, whether you are breast or bottle-feeding. Even dad can use it! The nursing pillow elevates baby to the correct feeding position, thereby eliminating back and neck ache and preventing sore nipples.

8. Burping Cloths

Take a couple of these with you everywhere you go with baby. Indispensable for keeping your shoulders clean and wiping up spills and spills and spills...

9. A Baby Sling Or Pouch

This is useful for keeping your young baby close to you while you are getting a few things done around the house. Does folding the laundry sound familiar?

Young babies don't sleep for very long at a time in the beginning and when they're not sleeping they like to be held. To have any hope of keeping your home in a livable state - you have to have a pouch!
Baby pouches are also a wonderful help if you have a colicky baby. The warmth of your body against her little tummy is very soothing and calming.

10. A Wheat Bag

I found an unexpected use for this little goody with my new baby. The warmth of a wheat bag on a sore little tummy beats every colic remedy on the market hands down. It soothes, relaxes and comforts.

Organic Baby Food - 7 Secrets to Choosing the BEST Brands

Written By Unknown on Thursday, September 10, 2015 | 1:11 AM

Neglect to follow these steps and you could feed your baby a substandard brand!

Choosing between the dozens of brands of Organic Baby Food is difficult and can be overwhelming! Many companies make all sorts of "claims" on their labels and some even make up facts and flat our lie to you! If you follow these 7 tips - when you are comparing those little jars, it will make your choice a little bit easier.
  1. Organic Certification Any organic baby food that you buy should be certified organic and have a certifiers logo or symbol on the label. It means all the ingredients meet the standards for organic foods. They have been grown without pesticides or herbicides and made without artificial preservatives, additives and sweeteners. BUT BE CAREFUL!! Sometimes food manufacturers will try to TRICK YOU into thinking that you're buying organic food when you really aren't!

  2. The First 3 Ingredients When reading an ingredient list, the first three ingredients are the most important. That's because they make up about 90% of the content of your food. With baby foods there usually aren't a lot more than three ingredients. So this rule can be slightly different. But the ingredients are always listed in order from the ingredient that makes up the largest percentage to the ingredient that makes up the smallest percentage of your food. So - The main ingredient of that food should be the first ingredient listed. WATCH OUT!! Another Trick food manufacturer's do is put great looking, "Nutritional Information panels" on the front of the pack. These are TOTALLY UNREGULATED! Which means they don't actually have to be true! and they often aren't!

  3. Filler Ingredients There are many different "filler" ingredients in pre-made foods. By filler ingredients, I mean ingredients that have NO nutritional value and are only added to increase the volume of the food (and give you less value for money!) Tip: Read the ingredient list. If anything is listed that isn't the food you are buying, they are filler ingredients. These ingredients should be avoided! Many things are used as filler ingredients to increase the volume of a food, thus "watering down" the nutritional value and the dollar value. DID YOU KNOW? Even some organic baby foods include unnecessary filler ingredients!

  4. Genetically Engineered Foods Do you know much about Genetic Engineering? I bet you'd be surprised to know that many, many items on your supermarket shelves are made with Genetically Engineered ingredients (including many we feed to our baby's!) Certified Organic Baby Foods will NOT contain any GE ingredients, however.... some brands simply call themselves organic and not "certified organic" by a 3rd party like the USDA so these brands are at risk of contamination!

  5. Preservatives Any food that comes pre-packaged needs to have a preservative. So, yes - even organic baby food has some preservatives. Not all preservatives are created equal! Many are very dangerous chemicals and you should therefore avoid them, but there are some naturally occurring preservatives that aren't all bad. Or the preparation/packaging method may be the preservative. Many "No preservative" foods are simply heat treated and sealed in their packet. Treating a food at high heats does kill bacteria but it also kills many nutrients and is therefore no better than most preservatives!

  6. Expiration Dates Organic foods are good for so many reasons. One of those reasons is their freshness. When you buy organic food it has to be fresh, frozen or preserved with natural preservatives. (not with toxic preservatives!) However, the down side to this is that organic food doesn't last for years on the shelf like some non-organic foods do. (Remember: This is a good thing). All of those chemicals that extend the shelf-life of foods are the ones we're trying to avoid. So, when buying organic baby food, be sure to check the expiration date. Grocery stores are used to jarred foods lasting for a long time and may not be as diligent in removing expired organic products from their shelves.

  7. Packaging, BPA & Other plastics The packaging your food is contained in is something you should really think about. The chemical Bisphenol A (BPA) that is found in some plastics can be very harmful especially to babies. Almost all baby bottles, toys and other products made from plastic used to contain BPA. Buy only bpa free drink bottles, bowls, spoons, storage containers etc for yourself and the entire family. Also, Avoid hand-me-down plastic containers as time and years of washing can make BPA and other Dangerous toxins leach out into the food at higher levels. Also the metal lining of some foods, like baby formula, or tinned vegetables can leak dangerous chemicals into your foods especially after or close to the expiration dates. The safest way for you to be sure to avoid these pitfalls when buying pre-made food is to buy baby food that says their containers are BPA free. Also when buying plastic items for your baby, like spoons and bowls be sure that they are BPA free and recyclable!(And remember to recycle them when it's time to replace.)
